MTN BIGGEST LOSER IN MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILTY MNP

South African Telecoms giant MTN has been the biggest loser in the  Mobile Network Portability (MNP) game. MTN Nigeria, lost 19,314 subscribers to other networks through the MNP activities in July.Airtel followed with the loss of 4,47 subscribers, Glo 3,039 subscribers and Etisalat 2,161 subcribers.
Nigerian Communications Commission reported that Telecoms operators engaged in 51,251 porting activities and the Biggest gainer was Etisalat with 14,125 new entrants from porting to it's network, followed by Airtel with 6,613 subcribers.

There has been stiff competition between the industry players, which earlier saw Hafiz Oyetoro aka Saka as a beneficiary when he initially advertised for Etisalat, only to cross carpet to MTN in a surpirse advert which saw him clad in the yellow attire representing MTN's brand and encouraging people to port to MTN. This was a great embarrassment to Etisalat (apparently gave oyetoro a bad deal) and just proved that what happens with over exploitation without adequate compensation.Critics viewed this as an attempt by MTN to fight back Etisalat, whose strategy they say had been targeted at MTN's large subscriber base.
