Toyota Recalls 6.5 Million Cars To Fix Window

Toyota is the latest in a string of auto companies to issue recalls in recent years because of safety defects that have raised questions about US vehicle safety. To name a few versions based on the recall, they are the Matrix, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia as well as Scion xB.

There has been one reported injury in which a person suffered a burn on the hand related to the defect. The cars also include those manufactured outside of Japan between August 2005 and August 2006, and January 2009 and December 2010, it said. Toyota has said that there is a chance for driver's side power window master switch to short circuit and cause parts to overheat. The problem with the window gear is the result of grease having been improperly sprayed during the manufacturing of electrical contact modules, AP noted.

Toyota said the fix will take about 45 minutes at a dealership, though it has made no mention of whether it will offer financial reimbursement for the repairs. The automaker will replace an internal circuit board if the switch is not working properly. For the most up-to-date Safety Recall information on Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles, customers should check their vehicle's status by visiting toyota.com/recall and entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The scale of the recall exceeds more than half a year of Toyota vehicle production. Toyota is recalling 6.5 million vehicles due to faulty power windows. Toyota has been working to regain its reputation for safety after the recall of millions of cars globally for various problems, including the airbag issues at embattled supplier Takata, based in Tokyo. Adding to it, Toyota said, it is not aware of any such incidents actually happening.
