SAHARA GROUP TARGETS 10,000MW GENERATION BY 2025



Owners of the Egbin power plant Sahara Group has stated it's intention to increase power generation to 10,000 megawatt from its current level of 1,000 megawatts over the next 10 years helping to bridge the gap in shortfall and contribute to the national grid. The chairman of the company Mr. Kola Adesina said at the graduating ceremony of the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) graduarte skill development in Lagos. He disclosed that Egbin power plant is currently working closely with KEPCO to embark on achieving it's vision of attaining 2,670 megawatts by 2017 and total capacity of over 10,000megawatts in the next decade.the current installed capacity stood at 2,200 megawatts while generation moved from 220megawatts to 1,300 megawatts according to Adesina. The permanent secretary, Ministry of Power mr Godknows Kigali said that Nigeria has the potential to generate 5,000 megawatts but is currently generating 4,600- 4,700 megawatts.
