BORNO STATE GOVERNOR SHETTIMA APPOINTS COMMISSIONERS
Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, yesterday swore in members of his new cabinet which includes a commissioner in charge of the new Ministry for Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Resettlement of persons displaced by Boko Haram.
Shettima had last week received the approval of the State House of Assembly to appoint 21 persons as commissioners, alongside 27 caretaker council chairmen.
The governor who made it clear that his next four years in office would focus on post-insurgency reconstruction of Borno State, warned that he would not hesitate to sack any appointee caught sabotaging his efforts through corrupt means.
Shettima, who at the same occasion, had sworn in the new council chairmen, also directed three of them whose indigenes were among the 10,000 refugees that returned from Cameroon, to proceed to Yola, Adamawa State, to ensure their safe return to the state.
The three council chairmen are of Ngala, Kalabalge and Gwoza local government areas.
Shettima reiterated his commitment to tackling the problem of hunger amongst the IDPs, and warned his aides against trying to play smart with foods meant for the displaced persons.
“Hunger is the main problem of our internally displaced people whose communities have been destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents”, said Shettima.
“We must do all we can to alleviate their sufferings and give them a new lease of life.
“Let me warn all of you that I will not even think twice in removing any chairman and commissioner found wanting in the discharge of his duties. Anybody, be it a commissioner, local government chairman, member of the State House of Assembly or any government official who tampers with foodstuffs meant for the poor, such person or persons will incure the full wrath of the law.
“Let me make it abundantly clear that I will involve the state security services and the military to monitor the distribution of these foodstuffs, and ensure they report back to me”, he added. Leadership
