Senate probes N2.4bn abandoned NNDC project

 
Senate yesterday commenced the probe of the N2.4bn abandoned Agbaraho Township roads project in Ugheli North local government of Delta state awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC).

The probe was as a result of a petition written by the Agbarho Improvement Union and presented by Senator Ighoyota Amori(PDP, Delta Central).
He said the contract for the 23 Kilometre road was awarded in 2009 to Serena Rocks Limited at the cost of the N2.4 billion by the NNDC.

“The contractor received N360 million for mobilisation fees in 2011 and another N360 million in 2012 from the federal government to execute the contract but nothing to show on ground in the site, “ explained the petition signed by the President General of union, Chief John I. Gbenedio.

It further noted that: “All efforts by our community leaders to get the contractor (Serena Rock 
Limited) to execute the project has met brick wall and NDDC is not forthcoming with information.”
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the plenary yesterday referred the petition to Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

The committee was given four weeks to complete the probe.
