The Lagos State Commissioner of Police,
Mr. Fatai Owoseni, has assured Lagosians that the recurrent traffic
robberies in the state will be curtailed before the Yuletide.
The CP said a committee had been constituted to deliberate on the security challenges in the state and how to address them.
Owoseni, who spoke on Tuesday during the
State Security Council meeting, said the security architecture of the
state had been reviewed by the committee and promised that there would
be an improvement on the police’s approach to fight criminal activities
in the state.
He said, “We looked again at the margin
of security challenges and trends that we are facing in Lagos and the
need to improve ourselves.
“The council also came up with the need
for us to re-commit our personnel to addressing these challenges with a
view to ensuring that as we approach the Yuletide, the Christmas period,
we would be able to at least reduce the criminalities in the state to
the barest minimum and to reassure our people in Lagos that the
government is committed to their safety.”
The police boss said there had been
improvements in some black spots which were raided for criminal
activities, adding that the force would not stop the raid until it
achieved appreciable success.
He said, “If you go to Falomo now, that
is one of the areas that were identified; the place has been rid of the
miscreants that had been occupying the place and it’s been freed.”
“Some other areas have been raided. Some
uncompleted buildings in Ebute Meta have been freed of miscreants while
the government is working on getting the owners of some of these
abandoned properties and is considering whether the approvals that have
been given to them should be revoked.”
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi
Ambode, who presided over the State Security Council meeting, assured
people of the state of increased security surveillance across the
metropolis, adding that hideouts would be continuously raided.
He said, “We want to assure the people
of the state that the government will increase security surveillance
across the metropolis and continuously raid identified hideouts of
criminals.”
