The Federal House of representatives has urged electricity distribution companies and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC to stop the upward review of tariff.
Passing
a resolution after the unanimous adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon.
Solomon Maren, member representing Bokkos/Mangu Federal Constituency of
Plateau state, the House also summoned officials of the NERC and the
management of the Discos to appear before the House to ensure that
Nigerians are not short-changed. He said the move to review upwards has the capacity to cripple SMEs in the country and create unemployment.Hon Maren alleged that the distribution companies who took over from PHCN two years ago have not added any value to Nigerian and therefore have no right to review tariffs upwards.
The House further mandated the NERC and Discos to immediately begin the provision of prepaid meters to consumer nationwide.
