Saraki, Dogara's men to get juicy appointments this week
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara would this week announce chairmen and deputies of the Standing committees of the two Chambers.Saraki has increased the Senate Standing committees to 65 from 57.
Since his emergence, Saraki had only constituted five out of the six special committees in addition to the adhoc committees he set up.
The special committees so far constituted by Saraki are Selection, Rules and Business, Services Committee, Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions and Public Account committee. He is yet to constitute committee on National Security and Intelligence.A source in the senate said all the former governors who stood by Saraki are believed to get the chairmanship of the “juicy” committees.
It would be recalled that Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, a former Governor of Zamfara State nominated Saraki for the Senate Presidency.
However, a senator who has seen the list said the committee on defence has been split into two.
“We now have defence and Army committees. We have also created the committee of Customs and Excise from the old Finance committee,” he said.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Senate, Dino Melaye said the Standing committees would be constituted soon.
Similarly, Dogara is expected to this week announce the membership of the 95 committees of the House.
This comes as the Selection Committee chaired by Dogara met and finalized all the processes of announcing the committees. A member of the Selection Committee who attended yesterday’s meeting that lasted for several hours said that the committees would be announced before the end of this week.
